AC Milan boss delighted after crucial league victory over Lazio

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has said that he is delighted for the team after secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lazio in the Serie A. The Rossoneri won the game through a late penalty scored by Franck Kessie and the victory has given them a boost in the pursuit of Champions League football for next term.

Speaking after the game, Gattuso said that he had expected a tough battle against Lazio and he is pleased that the team have eventually come up with maximum points from the game, he told DAZN: “In order to play against Lazio, you need to take this approach. You need pace, technique and physicality. We already showed a week ago against Juve that we were improving, while tonight we won the battle in midfield and did well to bring it home.

“The team did its duty. The lads have to fight for the jersey. Coaches come and go, the club remains. It was our duty to put in a strong performance and we have to compliment these lads who, despite their tender age, are giving everything. Negative moments are inevitable but we are back to winning ways.”

With the victory, the Rossoneri have moved six points ahead of Lazio for the fourth position after playing an extra game more but they have the advantage of the head-to-head record. Despite this, the Rossoneri are far from assured of the fourth league spot with just one point separating them from fifth-placed Roma while Atalanta are just three points behind them with a game in hand.

As such, Gattuso’s men cannot afford any slip-ups for the remaining six games of the campaign and that won’t be easy with testing away trips to Torino and Fiorentina. Milan are scheduled to face Parma on the road in their next league encounter. They bagged a 2-1 triumph over Parma during the reverse meeting.
