Berardi opens up on the possibility of playing for Liverpool in the future

Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi has said that he would fancy the potential move to the Premier League with Liverpool in the future. The 24-year-old has notched nine goals and five assists during the current Serie A season and his progress has already captured the attention of AC Milan.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Berardi acknowledged that he is not frightened to take up a challenge elsewhere and Liverpool are one of the clubs whom he would prefer to join. However, the Italian has indicated that he has no plans of playing a back-up role and he would require assurances of being a regular starter to consider such a move.

He said: “If an offer arrives, be it from Milan or another club, I will evaluate it with my club. And if I hear that it is the right proposal, to be taken on the fly, this time I will say to Sassuolo: I’ll take it. Being able to choose, I would play in Liverpool. Changing remains difficult for me, but it no longer frightens me, I would do it. The next goal is to play in Europe, but at a club where I can be used a lot, if not always. That is my priority.”

Jurgen Klopp’s team are bracing for the departure of Daniel Sturridge when his contract expires during the summer. In that case, Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi remain the choices for the centre-forward role and Berardi can be regarded as a quality summer addition for the position, should the manager want more competition for places.

Nonetheless, Berardi seems determined to earn regular gametime with the next challenge and that is something which remains far from assured with the Reds. Liverpool are scheduled to end their campaign with a star-studded Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid next weekend. The Reds are regarded as the outright favourites after doing the double over Spurs in the league.
