CARRAGHER SUGGESTS GIBBS-WHITE UPGRADE

Jamie Carragher has once again questioned Dominik Szoboszlai’s impact at Liverpool, this time suggesting Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White could be an upgrade on the Hungarian midfielder. Despite Szoboszlai playing a key role in Arne Slot’s side this season, Carragher has been vocal about his belief that the 24-year-old needs to contribute more goals.

CARRAGHER SUGGESTS GIBBS-WHITE UPGRADE

Last week, the former Reds defender floated West Ham’s Lucas Paquetá as a potential replacement. Now, he has added Gibbs-White to the conversation, insisting the Nottingham Forest playmaker has the qualities to thrive at a top club. Speaking on The Overlap US: It’s Called Soccer podcast, Carragher expressed his admiration for the England international, believing he could compete with or even surpass Szoboszlai in Liverpool’s system.

“I’ve been watching Morgan Gibbs-White now for probably 18 months in the Premier League, and I’m convinced he can play for one of the top teams,” Carragher said. “I look at him in that number 10 position – he’s got goals, he’s got energy, he’s quick, he gets on the ball, and I think that lad has got a lot going for him. Obviously, he’s going to get a move.”

Gibbs-White has been one of Nottingham Forest’s standout players since joining from Wolves in 2022, providing creativity and attacking drive. His performances have already drawn interest from bigger clubs, and Carragher believes a move to a top side is inevitable. He went as far as to claim that the 24-year-old is at least on par with Szoboszlai, if not superior, in the attacking midfield role.

“I think he’s as good as Szoboszlai, if not better, in that number 10 position,” Carragher added. “I think he’s brilliant.”

Liverpool’s midfield has undergone a significant transformation since Szoboszlai arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023, with the Hungarian quickly becoming a key figure under Jürgen Klopp. However, Carragher has been critical of his end product, calling for more goals and assists from the midfielder. While Szoboszlai has been an influential presence, his goal tally has not yet matched expectations, leading to suggestions that Liverpool could look for alternatives in the near future.

Carragher’s repeated calls for Liverpool to consider replacements suggest he remains unconvinced by Szoboszlai’s long-term impact. However, Liverpool fans may find it premature to talk about replacements when the Hungarian has only been at the club for a season and has played a crucial role in their push for silverware.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Liverpool’s recruitment strategy remains unclear under new manager Arne Slot. While Gibbs-White’s potential is evident, whether the Reds will consider a move for him—or if Szoboszlai’s place is even under threat—remains to be seen.
