SAKA MARKS ARSENAL RETURN WITH INSTANT IMPACT

The Emirates crowd only got louder for Bukayo Saka as the night went on. First, his name was read among the substitutes; then he warmed up; then he stepped onto the pitch with 24 minutes left; and finally, he made it all count, scoring just seven minutes after coming on.

It had been more than three months since Saka last played for Arsenal, his hamstring injury and surgery meticulously planned to ensure a smooth return. But even with all the preparation, no one could have predicted such a perfect comeback. Arsenal were already in control against Fulham, but Saka’s goal put the result beyond doubt in a dominant performance following the international break. Rodrigo Muniz’s stoppage-time strike gave the visitors a late consolation, but Arsenal’s 2-1 victory was never truly in question.

ARSENAL SET FOR SUMMER ATTACKING OVERHAUL

Arsenal’s win over Chelsea last weekend was a welcome result, but it underlined the need for reinforcements in attack. The Gunners struggled to create chances in their 1-0 victory, relying on a Mikel Merino header from a corner to secure three points.

Mikel Arteta’s side have played 29 Premier League games this season, and in 14 of them, they have scored one goal or fewer. Injuries have played a role in that inconsistency, but Arsenal’s attacking struggles this season contrast sharply with their form last year. In 2024, they scored 114 goals in all competitions—their best scoring record in over 60 years. However, this campaign has shown the need for more depth and quality in the final third.

SALIBA HAPPY AT ARSENAL

William Saliba has expressed his happiness at Arsenal and his desire to win major trophies with the club. With just two years remaining on his contract at the end of this season, the 23-year-old defender has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid but remains calm about his contract situation.

“I’m really happy here,” Saliba said. “I’ve been here for two and a half years. There is nothing [to worry about]. I’m happy here, and I want to continue here. I want to win big things with Arsenal. If you leave this club without winning anything, the fans will forget about you. I want to win big things here.”

ISAK TO LIVERPOOL?

Jamie Carragher has cast doubt over whether Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak would choose Arsenal this summer, despite growing speculation linking the Swedish forward with a move to the Emirates Stadium. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 19 goals in all competitions, and is being talked up as a potential £150 million signing.

Carragher, however, believes that Liverpool could be a more attractive destination for Isak. Speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, he questioned the assumption that Arsenal is the clear frontrunner for the striker’s signature. He pointed out that Liverpool, who could still win the Premier League this season, are also in need of a top center forward. He argued that, given a choice, Isak might prefer a move to the champions rather than a club still building towards title contention.

ARTETA ADMITS ARSENAL NEED TO BE NEARLY PERFECT

Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that Arsenal will need to be near perfect to catch Premier League leaders Liverpool, but he believes momentum is building after a difficult spell. Arsenal, who finished runners-up to Manchester City in the last two seasons, have seen Liverpool surge eight points clear at the top of the table.

Arteta’s side heads into Saturday’s match against West Ham buoyed by a 5-1 thrashing of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League and a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last weekend. The win over Forest ended a four-match winless streak in the league and gave Arsenal hope of climbing back into the title race. A victory at the London Stadium on Saturday would lift the Gunners into second place, ahead of Sunday’s key clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.

FOREST NEAR NKETIAH TRANSFER

Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have held productive discussions regarding a potential transfer for Eddie Nketiah. The Gunners are prepared to part ways with the striker this summer, and Nketiah has garnered interest from several clubs. While Bournemouth and Marseille initially expressed interest earlier in the transfer window, they have since turned their attention to other targets, leaving Forest as the frontrunner for his signature.

Positive talks between Arsenal and Forest took place this week, with Forest emerging as the most likely destination for Nketiah. The Gunners, however, have rejected Forest’s opening offer of £25 million, holding firm on their valuation of at least £30 million.
